Find Your Alexa Rank

What Is an Alexa Rank?

Before we get started, let’s just make one thing clear. Your website’s Alexa rank has nothing to do with the voice activated device currently populating many homes across the country.

Your Alexa rank is a global and regional result of just how popular your site is compared to every other website on the web. The lower the number of your Alexa rank for global and regional results, the better your site is perceived to be.

For example, sites such as Amazon and Facebook would have a low global Alexa rank, maybe between 1 and 10. This shows that they’re some of the most popular websites on the internet.

Although it’s extremely unlikely that a website will reach the heights of Amazon and Facebook, you can still use Alexa rankings to learn how your company stacks up against competitors, both globally and regionally.

What Factors Does Alexa Consider?

According to the Alexa blog:

“Every day, Alexa estimates the average daily visitors and pageviews to every site over the past 3 months. The site with the highest combination of visitors and pageviews over the past 3 months is ranked #1.”

The tool ranks websites from 1 to around 3 million. Therefore, any website of 100,000 or under is considered to be doing well.

So, how, exactly, does our Alexa Rank Checker work, and what information does it provide?

Simply enter the URL you would like to check, and click submit.

You’ll then be faced with a list of of the following results:

  • Global rank

    • This includes the overall popularity of your website within the global database, i.e. what rank your website is in comparison to every website across the world. The lower the number, the more popular the site.

  • Regional rank

    • Similar to your global rankings, your website’s regional ranking determines the popularity of your website within its country. Therefore, you’ll typically find that this number is much lower than your global rank.

  • Popularity at

    • Beside the ‘popularity at’ column, you’ll find the country that the majority of your website users are from, as well as which country has the fewest users of your site.

  • Backlinks

    • Slightly more self-explanatory is the backlinks column, which reports how many external backlinks the analysed website has pointing back to it.

In addition to this data, you will also be shown two graphs. One displays the progress of your URL’s Alexa rank over the last 12 months. The other graph shows a similar trending line, but it reports on the percentage of traffic on your website that’s derived from search engines.

How Do I Improve My Alexa Rank?

As mentioned earlier, your site’s Alexa ranking is determined by the amount of search traffic your site is able to attract over a 3 month period.

Therefore, in theory, you simply need to improve your traffic volumes to see your Alexa rank soar. This can be done in a number of ways, but some practices that will go a long way toward helping are:
